Team USA Basketball fended off a late comeback effort from Australia to win its second exhibition game together as the team continues its pre-Olympic exhibition schedule.

The USA defeated Canada 86-72 on Wednesday in the first game of the USA Basketball Showcase in Las Vegas. Australia beat the Boomers 98-92 on Monday.

Australia exposed Team USA’s flaws throughout the fourth quarter with a strong defensive effort that forced poor turnovers and missed shots. But the clutch shooting of Tyrese Halliburton and Devin Booker kept the U.S. strong enough to win the game.

In total, the Team USA roster will have played five games together during the showcase before the start of the 2024 Paris Olympics. After its two games in Abu Dhabi, the team will play two more games in London before playing its first group stage game of the Olympics on July 28.

Here’s how Team USA beat Australia in a pre-Olympic tune-up game.

USA takes on Serbia in Abu Dhabi for its third USA Basketball Showcase exhibition game on Wednesday, July 17. The game begins at noon ET and will be televised on FS1.

Booker’s clutch free-throw shooting kept the U.S. ahead despite a late comeback effort from Australia. Team USA won the second game of the USA Basketball Showcase and remains in Abu Dhabi to play Serbia on Wednesday.

Lawndale got a quick basket on an inbounds play and converted for his 20th point of the game after a foul. This reduced Australia’s deficit to four points.

As Australia continued to beat the Americans, Booker hit a mid-range jumper with 30 seconds left to give Team USA a nine-point lead.

After the Americans collectively missed their last seven shots, the Indiana Pacers guard knocked down a 3-pointer in the corner. He then hit the same shot on one possession to put the USA up 12 points. The lead is now 92-81.

Thanks to high turnovers and missed shots from the US, Australia reduced their deficit significantly. The American team’s lead was reduced to six points. With five minutes remaining, the Americans led 86-80.

With less than 10 minutes left in the game, the USA led Australia 76-61. The five men on the floor to start the fourth quarter are Curry, Edwards, Tatum, James and Davis.

Australia went on a 14-2 run on the back of several consecutive possessions by Team USA. The team is up to 12 turnovers with three minutes left in the third quarter.

The United States continues to roll with a rotation of two, five-man lineups throughout the game: Curry, Edwards, Tatum, James and Embiid; and Halliday, Booker, Halliburton, Davies and Adebayo.

White, a late addition to Team USA, still hasn’t played at the end of the third quarter, and the USA leads Australia 67-53.

The United States led the Boomers 53-37 in the 20-minute game at the Etihad Arena.

The United States’ starting center pulled up from the top of the basket and drained a 3-pointer, adding to Team USA’s big lead and continuing its success from beyond the arc.

Seven minutes into the second quarter, the United States players were 11/11 from the free-throw line. Team USA leads 46-30.

Australia went on a 7-0 run nearly halfway through the second quarter to chip away at the Americans’ lead, but Curry drilled a deep 3-pointer to get the U.S. back in the group.

Edwards leads both teams with 11 points in the game’s first five minutes, including 3/3 on 3-point attempts and 4/4 from the field.
