Country star Ingrid Andres, who went viral after singing the national anthem at MLB’s Home Run Derby on Monday night, said she was drunk during the performance and was seeking help.

“I’m not going to *********, I was drunk last night,” Andrus posted on Instagram. “I’m looking at a facility today to get the help I need.

“It wasn’t me last night,” she continued. “I apologize to MLB, all the fans and I love this country so much.”

Most days, Andres has a beautiful singing voice. If you want evidence that Andres can sing, he performed a beautiful Tiny Desk concert last year. (I was in the room! She could sing, and was so cool!) But Ingrid Andres was no traditionalist. Belter; Her gifts lie in observation and conversation and getting at subtle truths without exaggeration.

Also, if your name isn’t there Whitney Houston“The Star Spangled Banner” means a Popularly A difficult song to sing in a grand, upscale setting that promotes a soaring blast (lots of high and low notes, a melody that doesn’t slide easily).

On a casual day, if you’re in the mood for extravagance, Andrus isn’t the singer you’re looking for. Combine that with her mood on Monday night and you can see why her “Star Spangled Banner” went off the rails so quickly.

there There is One way to tackle the song without being too tacky – keeping it subtle and contained – and Andres seemed to be following in that tradition for a second at the start of the performance. But she soon began bending and curling her syllables exaggeratedly, and it set off a chain reaction as she wandered far off pitch on her way into power notes.

Before Andres revealed the cause of the disaster, the viral video seemed like the hilarious distraction many of us needed after a week of bad news. But at least the singer maintains a sense of humor about it. She ended her Instagram post with:

“I’ll let you know what rehab is like. I hear it’s a lot of fun.”
