After receiving six covers with the magazine, the mum-of-one said she felt it was the best decision for her.

“It completely changed my life,” he said of landing his first card. ‘This is my dream. Sports Illustrated is the only magazine that puts your name next to your photo.’

Upton retweeted the reveal on her Instagram, writing, ‘Happy to be back with my SI family! @yutsai88 , @mj_day and the entire SI team truly feel like a family. Thank you so much for sharing this incredible journey with all of you!’

SI Swimwear Editor-in-Chief MJ Day explained on CBS Mornings, ‘Listen, there are a lot of swimsuit photos in this magazine.

‘We’re not short on swimwear, but I love the idea that all these girls have to come together in a way that’s different for us.

‘I want the world to realize that sports illustration has become a powerful vehicle for change on a much wider scale.’

MJ added in a statement that he wanted to publish this year’s covers as it was the magazine’s 60th anniversary.

‘The 60th anniversary is a big deal. It may not be recognized as grandly as the number 50, but we felt the need to celebrate 60 wholeheartedly for one simple reason: because we humbly consider it the journey we’ve been on for the past 10 years. Revolutionary,’ she explained.

‘We have broken the same principles. We embrace diversity. We champion content.

‘With each passing year, we’re challenged to push the boundaries and redefine what sports defined swimwear is.’
