‘America’s Got Talent’ winner Michael Grimm on the mend after mystery illness

Michael’s wife, Lucytells TMZ … he recently made a breakthrough in his recovery and is now able to talk and walk under his own power.

The big news is that Michael, who has been in the hospital since Memorial Day, has been admitted to the intensive care unit and put on a ventilator.

Michael’s wife says he is still in the hospital and doctors have yet to identify a specific disease or syndrome behind his hospitalization.

We’re told Michael had an adverse reaction to being on a ventilator…his wife says his brain stopped communicating with the rest of his body.

So, now he has to relearn movement and speech, which is why walking is a milestone in his recovery.

Michael no longer needs a cane and can speak, his wife tells us, and he still can’t sing or play the guitar … but he’s been doing various exercises to restore his musical skills.

Improvements are good, but there are still some issues…Michael’s wife says he has PTSD from the ventilator and some past personal traumas have resurfaced during rehab.
