ABC News: Trump-Harris agree to presidential debate

The discussion will be moderated by World News Tonight anchor and managing editor David Muir and ABC News Live Prime anchor Lynsey Davis, the network said.

“I’m looking forward to discussing Donald Trump, and we have September 10th. I hear he’s finally committed to it, and I’m looking forward to it,” Ms. Harris said at the event in Detroit.

Mr Trump, the Republican nominee, debated President Joe Biden once in June.

The two were scheduled to do so again on September 10, but Mr Biden withdrew from the presidential race after a disastrous performance against Trump in the televised contest. This is MS. It paved the way for Harris to become the Democratic nominee.

The determination of the debate on ABC marks a back-and-forth that followed Mr Biden’s decision to leave the race between the Trump and Harris campaigns in a planned showdown.

Trump has previously said he would like the debate to be hosted by conservative network Fox News, saying it would take place “at a site in an area to be determined” in Pennsylvania.

The Harris campaign says they still want to debate Trump on Sept. 10.

At a news conference at his Mar-a-Lago resort on Thursday, Trump said he would like to debate Ms Harris two more times – on Fox News on September 4 and on NBC on September 25.

Trump said CBS will host the debate between the two vice presidential candidates, Republican JD Vance and Democrat Tim Walls.

The New York Times reports that NBC News is in discussions with both campaigns about a possible debate this fall.

Fox News said last month it had sent formal letters to both campaigns proposing a September debate in Pennsylvania, though the Harris campaign said Thursday that it “needs Trump to appear” at the ABC debate.

Trump also criticized Ms. Harris for not fielding reporter questions or being interviewed since she became the Democratic nominee two weeks ago.

He called her “merely talented” and criticized her intelligence.

Later on Thursday, Ms. Harris told reporters that she had asked her team to “schedule an interview” by the end of the month.

Trump’s hour-long event came amid reports that his campaign is feeling pressure from Democrats who have renewed vigor and dominate headlines under Ms. Harris.

National and battleground state polls suggest his campaign has gained in recent days, though the race for the White House remains a close contest.

The former president denied that he had “recalibrated” his campaign to challenge Ms. Harris instead of Mr. Biden, and appeared to take a jab when asked about the audiences Ms. Harris draws at rallies.

“Oh, give me a break,” she said, arguing that the crowds at her rallies were bigger than hers.

His Thursday news conference was his first in months, as his campaign has previously focused on holding rallies around the country.

Trump also praised his running mate, Mr Vance, who was recently criticized for his comments that childless people should not lead the country in 2021 and that childless women are “ugly” and “childless cats”. Women”.

“I have to tell you, J.D. Vance has really stepped up,” Trump said. “He’s doing an amazing job.”

He took aim at Ms Harris’ record on immigration and the economy.

He said 20 million people have come to the U.S. southern border with Mexico during the Biden-Harris administration, and there could be many more.

Since Mr Biden took office, US Customs and Border Protection says nearly 10.1 million crossings have been recorded.

While this is a significant increase during Mr Trump’s tenure and the highest on record under any US administration, the 20 million figure does not seem likely.

The former president also called his tax cuts “the biggest in history.”

But they were the eighth-largest measured as a percentage of the size of the economy (GDP) since 1918, and the fourth-largest in inflation-adjusted dollar terms since 1940, according to an analysis by the Independent Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget.

While Trump did not introduce the largest tax cut overall, he did pass the largest corporate tax cut in US history.

He reiterated his belief that US presidents should have a say over interest rates and monetary policy – a departure from the longstanding practice of the US Federal Reserve, an independent body, overseeing these matters.

He emphasized reducing inflation, reducing crime rates and strengthening the military as his priorities.

He also criticized the administration’s transportation policy, saying people would be “forced” to buy electric cars.

However, the Biden administration has made it clear that there are no plans to ban the sale of gasoline vehicles.

Ms. Harris addressed the United Auto Workers in Detroit on Thursday and thanked the union for endorsing her.
