“I’m looking forward to discussing Donald Trump, and we have September 10th. I hear he’s finally committed to it, and I’m looking forward to it,” Ms. Harris said at the event in Detroit.

Fox News said last month it had sent formal letters to both campaigns proposing a September debate in Pennsylvania, though the Harris campaign said Thursday that it “needs Trump to appear” at the ABC debate.
Trump also criticized Ms. Harris for not fielding reporter questions or being interviewed since she became the Democratic nominee two weeks ago.
He called her “merely talented” and criticized her intelligence.
Later on Thursday, Ms. Harris told reporters that she had asked her team to “schedule an interview” by the end of the month.
Trump’s hour-long event came amid reports that his campaign is feeling pressure from Democrats who have renewed vigor and dominate headlines under Ms. Harris.
National and battleground state polls suggest his campaign has gained in recent days, though the race for the White House remains a close contest.
The former president denied that he had “recalibrated” his campaign to challenge Ms. Harris instead of Mr. Biden, and appeared to take a jab when asked about the audiences Ms. Harris draws at rallies.

His Thursday news conference was his first in months, as his campaign has previously focused on holding rallies around the country.
