A 3rd Senate Republican endorsed Trump for president

Wyoming's Republican Senate. John Barroso announced his support for the former president on Tuesday Donald Trump In his latest bid for the White House, he became the highest-ranking GOP senator to do so.

“We need a strong Republican conservative House and Senate, we need Donald Trump back in the White House, and that's why tonight I'm supporting Donald Trump for president of the United States,” Barrasso said in an appearance on Fox News' “Hannity.”

Barrasso, the third-ranking member of the Republican Senate leadership, joins every member of the House GOP leadership in endorsing Trump's re-election campaign as the former president runs for the Republican presidential nomination. Public support comes less than a week from the Iowa caucuses.

Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell stayed neutral in the race. Senate GOP Whip John Thune South Carolina Sen. Tim Scott supported him before abandoning his venture.

Barroso, who is up for re-election in the fall, and Thune and Texas Sen. Like John Cornyn, McConnell is considered a potential successor.

While the former president continues to lead the Republican presidential race, recent polls show a surge for Nikki Haley, particularly in New Hampshire. A new CNN survey Trump's lead showed shrinking to single digits.
