Here's what Cullen DeBoer had to say about Alabama's quarterbacks after A-Day

Alabama closed out football's annual A-Day game on Saturday with a 34-28 victory despite a late defensive surge. Kalen DeBoer played four quarterbacks in the scrimmage, with returning starter Jalen Milroe, backups Ty Simpson, Dylan Lonergan and Austin Mack.

Milrow showed his familiar arm strength early on. He tied with Washington transfer Jeremy Bernard for the longest pass of the day, 52 yards.

“It's great to see him continue to take that next step and have that progression,” DeBoer said of Milrow. “For the past week, I think it's been pretty consistent.”

Milrow completed three of his nine attempts for 100 yards through the air. He tied for second on the team behind Simpson, who connected on seven of his 12 throws.

After the scrimmage, DeBoer had kind words for the redshirt sophomore.

“You saw it, he's doing a great job out there,” DeBoer said. “You have full confidence in a lot of guys out there. But Ty, again, he's been consistent and great all spring. There's never really been any drops in every practice.”

Simpson, who competed with Milrow for the starting job last fall, ran with the second team throughout the fight. Later, he was awarded the Part Star Most Improved Player Award for the spring by Alabama's coaching staff.

“You see what he's doing out there,” DeBoer said. “He's accurate, he knows when to touch it… He has good awareness.”

Lonergan completed 8 of his 12 passes for 67 yards. Mack went six of nine for 33 yards.

Overall, UA threw the ball 42 times, completing 24 passes for 302 yards. DeBoer also praised the entire team's pocket awareness.

“I feel like all the quarterbacks did a great job of pushing the pocket at the right time,” DeBoer said. “I know we've been emphasizing sitting back there and not letting that rush get to you on the edges.”
