Norfolk Southern derails at Springfield; WHIO TV 7 and WHIO Radio – No Hazardous Materials ‘Involved’

No injuries were reported. A Norfolk Southern spokesman said no hazardous materials were “involved” in the derailment.

U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg said in a social media post that he had been notified after the derailment and was extending federal support to Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine.

“This evening, approximately 20 cars of a 212-car southbound Norfolk Southern train derailed near Springfield, Ohio. No hazardous materials were involved and no injuries were reported. People living within 1,000 feet of the derailment, which happened near state Route 41 and Gateway Drive, are sheltering in place.
